Together for Europe’s recovery: this is the motto of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2020. In times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently experiencing, this motto is particularly fitting for culture and media policy. After all, especially times like these bring home to us how important culture and the media are for the process of European integration.
Vaccinations against COVID-19 have begun across Germany. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 367,331 people had already been vaccinated by 6 January. The strategy is to protect the weakest first. Mobile teams are vaccinating residents of pension, care and nursing homes, and the staff who look after them. At this stage, people over the age of 80 are also being offered the vaccination.
The current situation in Afghanistan and gas transit issues were at the forefront of the Federal Chancellor’s talks with President Zelensky during her visit to Kyiv. The Federal Chancellor also commemorated the victims of Nazi rule by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Memorial of Eternal Glory.
